Day 8 Scratching Experiment

On my 2nd attempt for Aces High, the odds don't lie. I hit for a whopping 10 smackeroos. It stops the losing streak at 7. It is strange how luck comes in goes. Actually I don't know if this is luck or more likely coincidence, I finally got my first unemployment check (which isn't anything to be proud of, but I did put in my time and money to get it back when needed), found out about "Dollar Daze" which is dollar ticket and dollar drinks to the 10,000lb Hamburger Tour staring Mustard the horse, and also hit on my scratch ticket all in the same day! Overall one of the best days of the past two months. In addition, I also get to view Bo Bice's flowing locks performing live tonight at Alive at Five. I am already planning a sabotage to shave them off, or at least take a chunk like they did in jackass. ( I have already planned escape routes as well, clippers have been oiled) Also, this David Ortiz thing doesn't phase me in the least, if you didn't see this coming you are a motley fool.

This is Happiness

As much as it pains me to put this photo up (when they defeated my beloved Patriots in the Super Bowl) it pretty much sums up my emotions about hearing that Brett Favre is staying retired. To anybody not familiar with this story, this man has been a disgrace to himself for the past two years. First, he comes back with the Jets and is absolutely horrendous. The Jets were a playoff team the year before he got there. The quarterback he replaced Chad Pennington went to Miami and turned them from the worst team in the AFC to a tie for 1st place. Mr. Favre only completed three passes over 15 yards the whole season. Second, for some ungodly reason, the Vikings were interested in having the all-time interception leader on their team. The Vikings could be a playoff team and good one if they had a decent QB, and Brett Favre is the opposite of a decent QB at this stage in his career.

I've Had It With These Mutha..........

First we had snakes on a plane, now we have snakes in a car. Interesting article coming out of the Globe today. Apparently this 20 year old kid was driving with two baby snakes in his pants and caused a multi-car accident. I dont know about you, but I only drive with one snake in the pants and it doesnt usually make me crash.

Here is a clip of the scene.

Don Draper vs Tony Soprano

After going through the first 5 episodes of the 2nd season of Mad Men, there has been one thing that struck me, how closely I see Tony Soprano in Don Draper's character. Both characters try (try is the key word here) to be the ideal family man at home, doing so unsuccessfully. Tony continuously has difficulty with Meadow in the early episode and Tony Jr closer to the end while Don often lies to his wife about his whereabouts and has trouble disciplining his son. At work, these characters are all business, whether it is with guns or with advertising. Both continuously are unfaithful to their wives with multiple women. Both continuously deal with past lies or half truths, Tony with all of the gangster activity and Don with his war history. Apparently all this may not be by chance, the executive producer for Mad Men is Matthew Weiner, who also was a writer/producer for the Sopranos. After doing some research on the interweb, I am not the only one who thought this.

Day 6 Scratching Experiment

This is the final $1 ticket at the convenience store downstairs. So out of the six tickets, only one winner. The odds per game hover at between 1 in 4 to 1 in 5 depending on the potential maximum payout per ticket. (actual avg winning % according to CT Lottery=23.5% [1:4.25]) As of today, my winning %=16.7%. The losing streak increases to five days. This number makes sense assuming within the next 2 days I get a winner.

Don't ask me about the double i's

Miike Snow is a group of three producers responsible for Britney Spears "Toxic", which is as close to perfect a pop track that I've heard. I was introduced to them, by hearing a Treasure Fingers remix of the opening song Animal. The self titled album came out a few months after that and is what you would expect if you heard Animal. It is glossy electro pop. It is a strange middle ground, doesn't make you get up and dance but doesn't exactly make you fall asleep either.

Day 5 Scratching Experiment

The newest game in the CT scratch lottery. None of the prizes have been claimed yet. Nevertheless, the losing streak continues, now at 4 days

Shocking Fact: It is almost the end of the decade!

So I was listening to Mr. Bill Simmons and he spoke about the how the decade and ending and decided to make my own top 5 list of movies for the decade of the 2000s. Will we call this decade the ooooooohs, in future years like we do the eighties or nineties? Three qualifications for movie, initial opinion, opinion over time, rewatchability. Without further ado. Also I am doing this blink, Malcolm Gladwell style, the first movies that come into my head.

1. Gladiator
2. Dark Knight
3. Pirates of the Caribbean
4. The Departed
5. Mystic River

What is the most interesting is that almost every one of these are blockbusters. What are your thoughts on these and your own lists?

Big Mouth Billy Bass

I stumbled upon this song recently and after the first listen, I was amazed at how deep the bass is (comes in around 1:05). It completely transforms this song in a good way.

We Own the Sky (Udachi Remix)

Day 4 Scratching Experiment

Fast Cash is one of the worst lottery tickets I have ever scratched. It takes 0 thinking, if you get the right symbol, you win, plus your maximum winnings are a grand. The odds are bad for a dollar scratch at 1 in 4. So obviously I lost today. Losing streak is at 3 in a row

Overall Winnings = $1

Day 3 Scratching Experiment

Quick Silver was the choice of the day. Apparently this game is ending soon, so my guess is that they gotta get rid of all the prizes and there are still a ton available. But sadly it was another loss, the losing streak is at 2 in a row. At least I am better at streak for the cash on ESPN. My overall record currently is 64-64-1

Overall Winnings = $2

Look Miles Davis, I've been swayed by the cool...

Album: The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound

This album is close to a year old already and not once have I gotten sick of it. It is definitely nothing new, but while listening to it, you can hear every influence to these guys. They make references to, for starters, Miles Davis, The Clash, Counting Crows, Bob Seger, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and most obvious Bruce Springsteen (he is a fan of the band and recently performed with them).

Day 2 Scratching Experiment

Aces High was the latest choice. Seems there are still lots of prizes available for this once, only 33 out of 155 grand prizes have been claimed. But nonetheless, it was a loss

Overall Winnings = $3

I like you so much better when your naked!

Album in current non-stop rotation: Ida Marie- Fortress Around My Heart

This album took my around two listens to fully appreciate her Craig Finn-eqest rambling and banter. Also this chick is known to throw in dip lips on stage and sing away, which I find amazing. I would love to give to a genre, but that just gives people opinions before they hear the music.

Rating: ☈☈☈☈☈☈☈ (7 out of 10 lightning bolts)

Favorite song: Oh My God

The Scratching Experiment

No, I am not talking about scratching my balls. The Scratching Experiment involves buying a single $1 scratch lottery ticket each day for a month. The experiment started today with an investment of $1. The scratch ticket of choice was Beginner's Luck which was exactly what I needed.

Day 1: Winnings = $4

Should I buy another Beginner's Luck ticket tomorow or try a new one? The options are large.

Inaugural Post

Ever since I was laid over around a month ago, I have been thinking about starting writing a blog. Primarily because I have so much time and do not know what to do with it, jobs are scarce and money is tight. My goal in this is to share information on a variety of subjects such as music, movies, sports, pop culture. Eventually I want to find a focus for this experiment, but hold on for the next few weeks because it would be a bumpy ride. Once again I have no idea who the audience is going to be so for the moment im not going to write with any particular style. With that enjoy and welcome to the Z FILES!
